Firaxis starts dropping patches for Civilization VII
Firaxis already stated its commitment to support Civilization VII for the years to come, and this goes beyond releasing additional content for the game. The roadmap for 2025 is already in place but the developer studio has more pressing matters to attend to right now. Some aspects of the 4X strategy game have not sat well among the community, especially the UI which is considered to be not functional enough. The studio is currently focused on improving said aspects of the game and it has started dropping updates already. The patches released so far have impacted gameplay with several changes, including enhancements to the user interface, bug fixes, and tweaks to City States, Naval Units, and the Ages system. You can check out the official notes for 1.0.1 Patch 2 if you want to know the details.
Modders come to the rescue
Enjoying an optimal experience in Civilization VII is not out of reach even if you can't put up with the current state of the game. A huge community of modders has already started to introduce modifications to the game that help mitigate some of the issues and allow the players to customize their experience. These have multiplied on Steam during the last few days and they come as a solid alternative for those not patient enough to wait for Firaxis Games to release more updates. It's not such a bad idea considering that the studio has its hands full with the enhancements to the game's interface and the fixes to several multiplayer issues. In fact, the studio temporarily disabled crossplay multiplayer between PC and consoles in order to avoid synchronization problems. Upcoming patches for the consoles and PC versions of the game will commonly be scheduled for different times. In any case, there will be no problem sharing the game with other players on your same platform.
Despite the initial doubts about the game, Civilization VII is slowly progressing on its post-launch journey and it will surely establish itself as the preferred 4X strategy game for many fans.
