Meet Harlowe the Gravitar: Borderlands 4’s Last Vault Hunter

Borderlands 4 unveils final Vault Hunter: Harlowe the Gravitar

The chaos of Borderlands 4 just got a major upgrade with the reveal of the game's final Vault Hunter, Harlowe the Gravitar. Known for her brilliant mind and inventive weaponry, Harlowe promises to shake up the battlefield with a combination of scientific precision and explosive power. Alongside Vex, Amon, and Rafa, she rounds out the Vault Hunter lineup with a unique mix of crowd control, elemental attacks, and support abilities.

Science can be lethal

Harlowe is no ordinary combatant. A former Maliwan scientist and member of the Traunt family, she brings a sharp intellect and inventive flair to the fray. With her mastery over Cryo and Radiation elements, Harlowe excels at manipulating the battlefield to her advantage, freezing foes in place and then turning them into walking explosives. Her backstory, tinged with personal and corporate conflict, adds depth to her role, making her more than just a powerhouse on the frontlines.

Her skillset emphasizes area control and strategic damage. The CHROMA Accelerator launches an unstable energy sphere that chills enemies before detonating for Radiation damage. The HALO Accelerator (Zero-Point) traps opponents in a stasis bubble, immobilizing them and potentially converting them into destructive Cryo bombs with the right upgrades. Meanwhile, the Flux Generator creates an energy field that slows enemies and shields allies, providing both offensive and defensive utility. Her passive trait, Entanglement, ensures that damage dealt to one enemy spreads to nearby foes, amplifying chaos in large fights.

A recently released gameplay trailer showcases Harlowe's abilities in action on the war-torn planet Kairos. Players can see her unleashing her inventive powers, strategically freezing enemies, and buffing her team, demonstrating her versatility as both a damage dealer and tactical support. Early impressions from the community and gaming media are overwhelmingly positive, with outlets praising her combination of destructive potential and crowd-control finesse.

Harlowe's reveal also comes alongside a short narrative titled “Family Reunion”, which delves into her complex relationship with her Traunt family and former employer, Maliwan. This story highlights her motivations beyond combat, giving players insight into the personal stakes that drive her actions. Critics have compared her to a hybrid of the iconic Borderlands Sirens and biotic powers from sci-fi classics, noting her ability to shift the flow of combat through clever use of her abilities.

With Harlowe now part of the roster, Borderlands 4’s Vault Hunter lineup is complete. The game is scheduled to launch on September 12, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release following on October 3, 2025. As the final Vault Hunter, Harlowe promises to deliver a fresh, high-tech edge to the mayhem of the series and beyond, ensuring players have a powerful new way to experience the franchise's trademark chaos.
