Final Fantasy XIV unveils Dawntrail, the MMORPG's next expansion

In Las Vegas, on the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival, Naoki Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P, took on the stage to talk about the acclaimed MMORPG's next expansion, dubbed Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. As he called it, it's gonna be a "summer vacation" for our Warrior of Light the after the countless perils and misadventures we've been through.

This time we're going to explore the western seas from the world known as Hydaelyn/Etheirys across the Indigo Deep and into the New World, a continent now known as Tural. In there, we will meet new Beast Tribes, such as the Mamool Ja, face new threats, search for the legendary gold city, and maybe even clash with our Scions allies.

As for gameplay updates, Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will increase the game's level cap from 90 to 100. In addition, Naoki Yoshida promised two new Jobs, a meele DPS, and a ranged caster DPS. However, he kept it a secret and didn't reveal those new Jobs for the time being. For comparison, Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker added Sage and Reaper, a healer, and a meele DPS.

Players familiar with the MMORPG can expect new variant dungeons, alliance raids, 8-player raids, ultimate raids, hunts, and updates to Duty Support, which allows you to explore story dungeons alongside NPCs without relying on the game's online mode. Version 7.0 will also improve the game's Quality of Life and the much-desired graphical update promised by the team in the past.

For Warrior of Light, who like to beat up other Warrior of Light, the keynote warned that it will bring updates to PvP. In Endwalker patch 6.1, FFXIV introduced Crystalline Conflict, a PVP Arena mode that pitted 5 players against 5 others. The mode was well accepted by the community, who felt that PVP was reinvigorated.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will be released in the summer of 2024, between June and September. The game is available for PC and PS5. Each expansion delivers between 60 and 80 hours of gameplay. For you who want to venture into one of the best narratives ever seen in an MMORPG, FFXIV offers a free trial that expands across A Realm Reborn to Heavensward, but to be expanded to Stormblood with patch 6.5 release, guaranteeing more than 100 hours of entertainment.
