GTA VI’s next big reveal is coming August 27 on Netflix

Rockstar Games is getting ready to pull back the curtain on Grand Theft Auto VI once again, with Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look arriving on August 27. While Rockstar has stopped short of calling it a full gameplay showcase, the timing makes this presentation especially exciting. After years of trailers, screenshots, characters and cinematic glimpses of Leonida, this could finally be the moment we get a proper look at how GTA VI actually plays.

The presentation will also have an unusual premiere setup. Netflix subscribers will be able to watch the Extended Look first, before it becomes available later on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel and GTA VI website. It is a surprising partnership, but for a game as massive as GTA VI, turning the reveal itself into an entertainment event feels strangely appropriate.

Rockstar’s timing points toward gameplay

There is another reason to think August 27 could be more than just another cinematic trailer: Rockstar has a habit of showing detailed gameplay relatively close to release.

The first official Grand Theft Auto V gameplay video arrived on July 9, 2013, roughly 70 days before the game launched on September 17. That showcase finally gave players a proper explanation of GTA V’s character switching, open world, missions, activities and other major systems.

Rockstar followed a similar strategy with Red Dead Redemption 2. Its first official gameplay presentation was released on August 9, 2018, around 78 days before the game’s October 26 launch.

GTA VI’s August 27 presentation arrives roughly 12 weeks before its currently scheduled November 19, 2026 release, putting it right around the same point in Rockstar’s traditional marketing cycle.

That makes the possibility of real gameplay pretty exciting. We may finally get a clearer look at driving, gunplay, police chases, robberies, character switching between Jason and Lucia, activities around Leonida and perhaps some of the new systems Rockstar has been keeping quiet about. None of that has been officially confirmed yet, but an “Extended Look” this close to launch certainly sounds promising.
