Bungie confirms the delay of Destiny 2: The Final Shape
Destiny 2 doesn't seem to be in its best moment right now and that is also affecting the development of the upcoming content for the game. Bungie released the Lightfall expansion last summer for its open-world FPS, and since then the game has not been able to progress much in terms of the number of players. The community points to several reasons for that, including the difficulty of catching up with the meta for new players, which combined with a seasonal model doesn't favor the arrival of new players. The release of Destiny 2: The Final Shape could be the revulsive the fans are looking for, but now the expansion will arrive later than expected.
Making it a worthwhile expansion
Bungie has announced a new release date for Destiny 2: The Final Shape which will now be available to play on June 4, 2024. The arrival of the expansion was originally scheduled for February 27, but the studio is going to take its time to make it worth the wait.
"The Final Shape is the culmination of the first 10 years of Destiny storytelling and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together. We want to honor that journey, so we're taking the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come."
The current content release schedule has been modified to accommodate such a delay, and Destiny 2 players will see some novelties added to the game in the meantime.
"In February, this will include new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes, and the launch of Moments of Triumph with unique rewards. Next, we’re moving Guardian Games up to March with a refreshed focus on class vs. class competition. Then, beginning in April, we’re delivering a two-month content update available to everyone called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler. All of this is in addition to the ongoing efforts from our PvP Strike Team, including three new PvP maps dropping in May."
Destiny 2: The Final Shape will not be the end of Destiny 2 but it will bring the culmination of the current storyline. Therefore, Bungie can't afford to release a half-baked product and a delay is the most logical option. In any case, Destiny 2 offers a solid experience and its numbers have grown by leaps and bounds since it was released on Steam.
With several expansions available and plenty of content to explore, the game is worthy of a look. Also, if you are a long-time fan of the franchise you won't want to miss the end of the story.
