Assassin’s Creed Shadows makes changes to its parkour system
The release of Assassin's Creed Shadows was met with a mix of skepticism and excitement, following a turbulent development cycle marked by delays and controversy. Despite initial concerns, the game has quickly turned things around. Thanks to Ubisoft’s dedication to refining the experience, reviews from both critics and players have taken a positive turn, and the launch has already reached major milestones.
To maintain this momentum, Ubisoft Quebec has committed to ongoing updates, new content, and active community engagement throughout the game’s first year. One of the most recent updates, Title Update 4, introduced a host of new features for players to enjoy. While many fans noticed improvements to Naoe’s parkour movement—describing it as smoother and more fluid—the update notes didn’t mention any specific changes. It wasn’t until Ubisoft stepped in that things became clearer.
Community parkour expert Ropotopolous spotted an early tweak to parkour with Title Update 4.

Our parkour devs just couldn't wait and added a subtle increase for consistently maintaining vertical height when free running.

“Our parkour devs just couldn’t wait and added a subtle increase for consistently maintaining vertical height when free running.”
Parkour Improvements Confirmed and Expanded
This quiet tweak turned out to be an early glimpse of broader parkour enhancements in the works. Ubisoft Quebec later confirmed via a comment on a video by content creator Ropotopolous that additional improvements are coming. The next update will include new "height-gaining side and back ejects," a feature many fans have been requesting.
The community has responded positively, with many players praising the smoother movement and drawing comparisons to Assassin’s Creed Unity—long considered to have the best parkour mechanics in the franchise. These parkour improvements appear to be another step in Ubisoft’s effort to blend Assassin's Creed Shadows’ fresh setting with the series' classic gameplay depth.
Assassin's Creed Shadows has also released its Year 1 Content Roadmap, outlining planned updates, features, and collaborations. With the game’s successful debut set in feudal Japan, Ubisoft is clearly positioning this title as a major comeback for the franchise.
