Assassin’s Creed Shadows reportedly coming to Switch 2 after leak

It looks like Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows may soon make its stealthy debut on Nintendo’s next-generation console. Following months of rumors, a French retailer listing for a Switch 2 version of the game has seemingly confirmed its existence — though Ubisoft has yet to officially comment on the matter.

The listing, spotted on Auchan’s website, included placeholder cover art and a product description that mirrored the official release on other platforms. Interestingly, the physical edition appears to use a Game-Key Card instead of a cartridge, aligning with earlier reports suggesting that Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ massive file size — over 100GB — wouldn’t fit on even the largest Switch 2 cartridges currently in production.

A Major Assassin’s Creed Adventure Could Be Heading to Nintendo’s Next Console

The leak follows previous signs that Ubisoft has been preparing the stealth-action hit for new platforms. Back in July, the game received a PEGI rating for Nintendo Switch 2, typically an indicator of an imminent release. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also mentioned that “new versions” of Assassin’s Creed Shadows were in development, hinting at additional platforms beyond the current-gen and PC versions.

If the listing proves accurate, players can expect the full Assassin’s Creed Shadows experience on Nintendo’s upgraded hardware. The Switch 2’s rumored use of Nvidia’s DLSS technology could enable smoother performance, bringing the richly detailed world of feudal Japan to handheld mode without sacrificing visual fidelity.

Originally released in March 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was praised for its stunning environments and dual-protagonist gameplay featuring Naoe the shinobi and Yasuke the samurai. Players alternate between stealth-based infiltration and explosive combat as they explore a vast and beautifully realized rendition of Sengoku-era Japan.

While Ubisoft hasn’t yet confirmed when Assassin’s Creed Shadows might arrive on the Switch 2, all signs point toward a release in the coming months — possibly following the pattern of Star Wars: Outlaws, which launched on the new console earlier this year.
