The Witcher Remake will be set in an open world

CD Projekt Red surprised us not too long ago with the announcement of several games related to The Witcher series. The most notable one is the remake of the first installment in the series. The original game was released in 2007 and it caught the eye of many fans of the genre with a gripping narrative, a deep level of immersion, and exciting combat features. More than twenty years later, Geralt has become an iconic character in the world of video games and outside, and the popularity of the series reached the top with the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a critically awarded masterpiece and best seller. 

We knew very little of CD Projekt Red's plans for The Witcher Remake but the studio is starting to spill the beans. In a recently published CD Projekt Group investor presentation you can find a lot of information about the revenue generated by the most important franchises created by the studio, including Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher. There is an image where The Witcher Remake is described as a "Story-driven, single player open-world RPG – a modern reimagining of 2007’s The Witcher". This would set the new game completely apart from its predecessor and much closer to The Witcher 3. This would also mean that the remake is quite an ambitious project and not just a new version of the old title with better graphics.

The original The Witcher features an exciting storyline that spans several chapters, but an open-world approach to the game would open plenty of possibilities when it comes to additional content. Will The Witcher Remake feature a branching storyline that is non-linear? How will Geralt navigate through the different events in the story? All these questions will find an answer in the future but it will be quite interesting to see how the new game evolves.
