Pillars of Eternity celebrates its anniversary with new features
Developer Obsidian Entertainment has created a long list of successful RPGs, including cult classics like Tyranny, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Neverwinter Nights 2, and more. Solid storytelling and engaging gameplay mechanics are the highlights of its creations and they are among the best in the genre. In most cases, the studio's games feature real-time combat that you can pause to give orders to the characters under your control, offering a dynamic and exciting experience. However, turn-based combat is an option that has always been preferred by the fans of the genre who want superior control and more time to think about their strategies, even at the cost of seeing the events unfold at a slower pace. Because of that, Obsidian added a turn-based mode to Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, which received a very positive welcome from the series' fans.
Happy 10th anniversary!
It's been ten years already since Obsidian redefined the standards of the genre with Pillars of Eternity. The game features significantly different mechanics from most titles in the genre and veers away from the usual adaptation of Dungeons and Dragons' character system that a majority of games use. The effects of the characters' stats are different and this leads to a unique way of creating characters that could be hard to grasp for many players at first, but that offers very exciting possibilities. Pillars of Eternity was a big hit but Obsidian wants to surprise the fans of the game with some novelties on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.
The studio has released a new update for the game that includes a series of improvements that extend to a wide range of fields, including UI, quests, combat, dialogues, and more. Patch 1.3.8.0.87535 is now live and it contributes to making the game experience a bit smoother, but the big novelty of this patch is that it prepares the game for the addition of a turn-based combat mode. It will be added to the game via a free update later this year, and it will significantly change the game experience for those who already discovered the world of Eora.
With this addition, Obsidial will finally offer an answer to the fans of the series who enjoyed this mode on Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire and have been requesting for it to be added to the main game. Also, it offers the fans a new opportunity to play through the first chapter of the series in a completely different way.
Whether you prefer real-time or turn-based combat in RPGs, Pillars of Eternity is one of your best choices if you are looking for a unique adventure. Feel free to use our comparator to buy Pillars of Eternity and its expansions The White March Part I and The White March Part II at the best price if you want to decide the future of Eora.
