Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny will be free next week on PC
Every week, Epic Games Store comes up with new video games to hand out for free. The popular indie platformer Cave Story+ is already available and you can claim it for free until next Thursday. But sometimes the creators of Fortnite surprise us with more than one game. This will be the case next week when Cave Story+ will be replaced by not one, but two of the best role-playing games released in recent years: Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny.
Although both games offer epic storylines in a fantasy world and with isometric graphics, the gameplay is completely different in each case. Tyranny focuses heavily on the storyline and it allows you to play as a servant of the Overlord Kyros. He rules with an iron hand a vast empire but a rebellion has risen in the region of Vendrien's Well. You are the one in charge of quelling it by any means, acting as judge, jury, and executioner on behalf of Kyros, but you have a limited time to do it before the mighty overlord destroys the whole region with his people with a powerful spell. You will have to investigate what's behind the rebellion and travel through the region recruiting companions that will help you in your mission and fighting. Every decision you make will have consequences that will impact the future of the region and yours.
Pillars of Eternity is considered the spiritual successor of the Baldur's Gate series, but it has claimed a spot as one of the best RPG with new mechanics and a thrilling storyline. The game takes you to the world of Eora, focusing on the region of Dyrwood, who is currently afflicted by a strange phenomenon that is causing children to be born without souls. You will arrive in the region and discover soon discover that you are a Watcher who is able to read souls. That will set in motion a series of events in the game that will have you immersed in an epic adventure in which you will have the final word about the destiny of the soulless children and Dyrwood itself.
Both games have been created by Obsidian Entertainment and were critically acclaimed at launch. You will be able to get them for free on PC via Epic Games Store from next Thursday.
