Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will not be getting any major DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second installment of the three-part Final Fantasy VII Remake project, launched in 2024 after a four-year wait and has received high praise from critics and players alike. Although it didn’t achieve the sales numbers Square Enix had hoped for, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth remains a highly worthwhile Final Fantasy game to play. It was also a highlight of Sony’s demonstration video for the PS5 Pro, with a PS5 Pro enhancement update recently released.
As the second chapter of this remake trilogy, many fans have wondered if there would be DLC similar to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, which included the Episode Intermission expansion. Recently, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, officially confirmed that there will be no major story DLC for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Instead, the focus will shift entirely to the development of Part 3.

In an interview with the Daily Star, Naoki Hamaguchi explained that although he understands fans are requesting story DLC for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, it won’t be happening because the team is prioritizing the release of Part 3.
“We definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing,” Hamaguchi explained.
“I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.
“So that’s why we’ve decided not to focus the development resources on creating additional extra episodes for DLC at the moment. We really are putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as we can. So for the moment, that’s where we’re focusing our time.”
This decision is not entirely surprising, especially considering the recent development updates for Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, which promise incredible things for the trilogy’s conclusion. With Square Enix’s shift in strategy toward multi-platform releases, could it be possible that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will launch simultaneously on PC and consoles? Let’s wait and see!
