Final Fantasy VII Revelation Gets Its Release Date

The long-awaited conclusion to Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII remake project finally has a release date. During the latest State of Play presentation, the company confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch worldwide on April 8, 2027. The announcement also came with a substantial gameplay showcase, offering a deeper look at what players can expect from the third and final chapter of the remake trilogy. Cloud and his companions will continue their journey following the events of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, with the new game significantly expanding the scope of the adventure.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch simultaneously on every major platform. Players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC will all be able to play the game from launch day. This makes Revelation the first game in the Final Fantasy VII remake project to receive a simultaneous worldwide release across all of these platforms.

The multiplatform launch represents a major departure from the previous entries. Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth both initially launched on PlayStation hardware before eventually making their way to additional platforms. This time, Square Enix is avoiding that staggered approach and bringing the finale to console and PC players at the same time.

Another look at the game

The new gameplay footage has revealed that the world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be considerably more open. Players will eventually gain access to the Highwind, allowing them to travel across the game's expansive environments and explore areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach. Also, Chocobo companion Piko will also play a larger role in the adventure. Players can ride Piko while exploring the world, while the chocobo can also join the action during battles and make use of different abilities.

Combat is being expanded with the introduction of the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) system. These specialized outfits provide characters with different combat capabilities, with Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner variants among those revealed so far. The system also changes the appearance of characters, giving players another way to customize their party.

Fans of Rebirth's Queen's Blood card game will have another reason to explore the world, as the popular minigame returns in Revelation. This time, Queen's Blood will be accompanied by a new storyline centered around Red XIII, alongside new opponents and gameplay mechanics. All of these additions point toward a significantly larger experience for the trilogy's conclusion.
