Battlefield V is a first-person shooter developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts, and it represents the sixteenth main entry in the long-running Battlefield franchise. Building on the series' legacy of large-scale warfare, Battlefield V returns to World War II with a modern design philosophy, emphasizing player-driven moments, tactical freedom, and immersive, sandbox-style combat. True to the Battlefield identity, the game blends infantry combat with armored vehicles, aircraft, and fully destructible environments, creating dynamic battles that evolve moment by moment.
In Battlefield V, players are encouraged to work closely with their squadmates, sharing resources, reviving fallen allies, and coordinating attacks to gain strategic advantages. Squad leaders can issue orders, call in reinforcements, and request powerful support options, reinforcing teamwork as a core pillar of the experience. This focus on cooperation extends across all modes, ensuring that even the largest battles feel grounded in small-unit tactics.
The single-player component, War Stories, offers a narrative-driven experience that highlights lesser-known perspectives of World War II. Rather than following a single protagonist, the campaign is divided into multiple standalone stories set across different regions of the world. Nordlys follows a young female resistance fighter in Nazi-occupied Norway, blending stealth and sabotage as she fights for both her country’s freedom and her family’s survival. Under No Flag shifts the setting to North Africa, focusing on a British criminal recruited for a high-risk mission to dismantle German airfields behind enemy lines. Tirailleur tells the story of Senegalese soldiers serving in the French Colonial Forces, exploring themes of sacrifice and identity as they fight to liberate a homeland they have never seen. The final chapter, The Last Tiger, presents a rare perspective from the German side late in the war, following a Tiger tank crew as they begin to question the ideology and choices that led them to the battlefield.
Multiplayer remains the core of Battlefield V, offering a wide range of modes designed to support different playstyles. The game features multiple large-scale maps, each designed with verticality, multiple combat routes, and environmental destruction in mind. Players can choose from four classic classes, including Assault, Medic, Support, and Recon, each with unique weapons, gadgets, and roles that contribute to the overall team strategy. Vehicles play a major role in the game, from tanks and transport trucks to fighter planes and bombers, allowing battles to unfold across land and air seamlessly.
Classic Battlefield modes such as Conquest, Domination, and Team Deathmatch return, refined for modern gameplay. In Conquest, two teams battle for control of multiple flags spread across expansive maps. Each team begins with a limited number of tickets, which are depleted through player deaths and by losing control of objectives. Holding more flags than the opposing team triggers ticket bleed, accelerating their defeat. Reviving downed teammates is critical, as it preserves tickets and keeps pressure on the enemy, reinforcing the importance of medics and squad cohesion.
One of Battlefield V’s standout modes is Grand Operations, a multi-day, multi-mode experience designed to replicate the flow and scale of real historical conflicts. Battles unfold across several in-game days, with each phase influenced by the outcome of the previous one. Matches can begin with Airborne, where players parachute into combat to sabotage enemy defenses, and continue with modes like Frontlines, a tense tug-of-war where teams push forward to arm explosives at the enemy base. As the operation progresses, resources become increasingly scarce, and by the final day, players face limited supplies and no respawns, dramatically raising the stakes and tension.
In terms of progression and customization, Battlefield V avoids gameplay-altering microtransactions. Instead, progression is tied to in-game playtime and performance. Players earn Company Coin through matches, which can be spent on weapon upgrades, vehicle specializations, and cosmetic customization. Cosmetic items can also be acquired using Battlefield Currency, ensuring that purchases remain purely visual and do not impact competitive balance. All post-launch maps and gameplay content are delivered free to the community, keeping the player base unified and the experience evolving over time.
Battlefield V delivers a modern World War II experience that combines cinematic storytelling, curated multiplayer systems, and large-scale, team-focused combat. By blending historical settings with contemporary shooter mechanics, it offers players an immersive take on global warfare.
