Final Fantasy XVI is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix. It marks the sixteenth installment in the Final Fantasy series and was released exclusively for the PlayStation 5. Amidst the game's resounding success, Square Enix introduced the first DLC expansion titled "Echoes of the Fallen," which was released on December 7, 2023. Following that, during a livestream at PAX East, producer Naoki Yoshida, alongside DLC director Takeo Kujiraoka, shared additional information about the upcoming second DLC and announced its release date.
After a period of anticipation, the second DLC pack for Final Fantasy XVI, titled "The Rising Tide," is now finally available worldwide on April 18, 2024:
An unmarked letter arrives at the hideaway containing a request most curious: the Dominant of Leviathan, long lost Eikon of Water, is in need of rescue.
To heed this call, Clive and his companions must journey to Mysidia—a hidden land under a blue sky—where they will uncover the tragic history of a forgotten people.
The Rising Tide will introduce a wealth of new content into the game, including ten side quests to complete, new optional monsters, and a whole new area to explore, totaling about 10 hours of gameplay:
- New Locations: Kairos Gate
- The Aire of Hours: Once a bastion of civilization, these proud ruins now lay silent, save for the incessant sharpening of knives... for here have the Tonberries staked their rancorous claim.
- Mysidia: Deep within a sea of darkness, sanctuary exists for those who know where to look—a lost oasis untouched by the ever-encroaching Blight. It is beneath her emerald boughs that both man and beast have found their final haven.

How to start Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide
To begin The Rising Tide, you'll first need to finish most of the main game on at least Normal difficulty. Start by unlocking the final main quest, "Back to Their Origin," which leads you to the game's last boss. This will transition the world into an endgame state with numerous side quests available. Among these, completing "Will" and "Priceless" is necessary to access the DLC content.
Once these prerequisites are met, you'll receive a Mysterious Letter at Clive's desk. Reading it will initiate The Rising Tide questline and grant you a trophy. From there, travel to Northreach and follow the objectives to continue the expansion.
