Perhaps one of the most classic genres of all, platform games have been a childhood favorite for many gamers. They became very popular in the 80s and 90s with the arcades, but especially with the release of the first Mario Bros. the game that made the genre so famous. Platform games usually feature 2D or 3D side-scrolling levels in which the player has to face enemies and overcome various obstacles by jumping or running. Traditionally, the number of lives a player has is limited, but most games today are less punishing. Among the most famous series are Mario Bros, Sonic the Hedgehog, Rayman, Crash Bandicoot, and many others.
