A few years have passed after the events in XCOM 2 and the world has to face a new situation. The alien leaders have left leaving behind their old troops and a new era of cooperation between the different races has started as an attempt to leave behind the war. But not everyone agrees with this, and City 21 is suffering because of the effort of different factions to disrupt the peace. The police department is overwhelmed and you are in charge of a special unit that arrives at the city to help to control the unrest.
XCOM: Chimera Squad is a tactical turn-based game in which you command a squad formed by special agents from different races. You will take on missions and investigations in order to thwart the pans of several organizations that want to end the peaceful coexistence of humans and aliens in City 21. The game features a management phase where you select your target, recruit new agents, research new technologies, and get your team ready to send them in a mission. By completing those missions you lower the level of unrest in each of the districts of the city. If the unrest level is too high, the game ends.
The tactical combat in the game is similar to XCOM 2, but it's focused on breaching and entering into different locations before clearing all threats and proceed to rescue civilians, recover data, or finish whatever is your objective. You will select different entry points and distribute your team however you see fit. Depending on what skills your team uses, its equipment, and the positioning, the breaching phase can lead to a swift success or a disaster. After the breaching phase, your team and the enemies will take turns to move and take action. Each of your squad members has a variety of skills that they can use in combat, and you will also be able to unlock new ones as they gain experience. You can also assign them different equipment according to your needs.
XCOM: Chimera Squad is a spin-off that adds a lot of personality to the XCOM series, offering you a new experience that combines new gameplay mechanics and a good story.
