It's a good Anno game, but the campaign is pretty short and the online still has some issues. Most were fixed, but it could use a bit more work. If you don't care about any of that, there's still a lot of goodness for city building fans to enjoy.

This city builder stays perfectly on the trajectory of its predecessors, with a few improvements that add gameplay options without, however, offering anything substantially different from the usual. The real star of this game is the user interface, at once simple, elegant, and super efficient: all management games should take it as a model. It's a shame that the campaign story has one of the most anticlimactic endings I've ever seen.

I think I like the timeage this plays out... the Romans were one of the strongest armys before and that timeage was very nice. The Game is really catching up many things around that years and when seeing the trailers and so I think I will get it. Well the fans will all love it anyway. :)

Anno 117 is widely praised for its gorgeous visuals, detailed Roman cities, and high production values that make zooming in on streets and monuments feel rewarding in itself. Reviews highlight it as one of the standout city-builders of the year, though notes that it is more of an evolution of Anno 1800 than a radical reinvention, with a campaign that some enjoy mainly as an extended tutorial before sandbox.

Anno 117 has become my go-to zen game. It may sound strange to say that about a strategy title, but there's something almost therapeutic about watching production lines fall into place, warehouses fill up and the population thrive. When everything finally flows, I relax by moving buildings, decorating squares or laying out new avenues. Even when problems arise, such as lack of goods or riots, they feel like interesting puzzles to solve, not frustrating punishments.

One of the things I value most is how the game makes you feel the weight of your decisions without punishing you unfairly. Leveling up certain population strata, betting on trade or self-sufficiency, expanding to new regions... everything has consequences that are slowly felt. That feeling that your Empire is sustained thanks to a complex network that you yourself have designed makes each achievement, no matter how small, very rewarding and encourages you to continue fine-tuning your strategy.
