Ubisoft confirms progress on Sands of Time Remake
After years of silence and uncertainty, Ubisoft has reassured fans that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is progressing steadily. The latest update, shared via the franchise's official Twitter account, confirmed that Ubisoft Montreal remains “deep in the game,” with development going smoothly.
Originally announced in 2020, the remake has had a troubled journey. Initially helmed by Ubisoft’s Indian studios in Mumbai and Pune, the project was delayed multiple times before being handed over to Ubisoft Montreal for a full reboot. Since then, updates have been sparse, with only a short CG teaser shown during Ubisoft Forward in June 2024. That teaser placed the release window sometime in 2026, though no specific date has been announced.
While the lack of concrete details may concern some fans—especially given Ubisoft's history with long-delayed projects like Beyond Good and Evil 2—this recent update offers a bit of hope. Ubisoft emphasized that the team is committed and working diligently on the remake, aiming to deliver a faithful yet modernized version of the beloved 2003 classic.
An Encouraging Update From Ubisoft
Yep, we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose. ️⏳

The renewed attention on the Prince of Persia franchise comes amid a broader revival of the series. 2024 saw the release of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a 2D Metroidvania that received praise for its combat and level design. In addition, The Rogue Prince of Persia, developed by Evil Empire (the team behind Dead Cells), is now available in early access and has been well received by fans of roguelike games.
Ubisoft’s tweet also encouraged fans to explore these new titles while waiting for more news about Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. With this steady flow of Prince of Persia content, it’s clear the publisher is serious about reviving the franchise after years of dormancy.
Although fans didn’t get new footage during Summer Game Fest 2025, many hope that Gamescom or The Game Awards later this year will bring a more substantial update—perhaps even a gameplay reveal. For now, though, it’s comforting to know the project is still alive and seemingly on track.
