Tekken 8 hits 2 million sales milestone

Bandai Namco announced that their latest installment in the renowned fighting game series, Tekken 8, surpassed a total of 1 million units sold worldwide on launch day and hit 2 million units within its first month. The game is set to receive ongoing content updates through esports events, music announcements, and licensing deals.

In comparison to other fighting titles, Mortal Kombat 1 sold 3 million units from its September 2023 release to January 2024. On the other hand, Street Fighter 6 reached 1 million units in just five days after its June 2, 2023 release and also achieved the 3 million sales milestone in January 2024. It's certainly a great moment to be a fighting genre fan.

For esports enthusiasts, the Tekken World Tour 2024 kicks off on April 13, 2024. Following the conclusion of the last Tekken 7 tournament, players will shift their focus to Tekken 8, competing globally to earn points and climb the rankings for a shot at becoming the world's best player. This year's EVO will undoubtedly be more exciting than ever, with Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE-, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, The King of Fighters XV, and more.

One of the ways Tekken 8 gained social media traction was through its robust character customization system, allowing players to dress and modify their avatars as they please and create lookalikes from characters outside of the franchise spectrum. The upcoming Tekken Shop update will let players acquire customization items, including outfits from previous games, character skins for avatars, and licensed collaboration items, adding a personal touch to their Tekken characters.

Tekken 8, the franchise's latest release in seven years since Tekken 7's console launch in 2017, is the first on the new generation of hardware. The 32-character roster has been completely redesigned in Unreal Engine 5, featuring classic characters like Jin Kazama, Nina Williams, and Kuma, alongside newcomers Reina, Azucena, and Victor. More characters will be added throughout 2024 in the form of DLC, such as the returning character Eddie in the Spring. Three more characters will be available in Tekken 8 throughout 2024 but are yet to be announced.
