Sonic Mania is free for a limited time on PC

The weekend is almost here and a new couple of free games are available on Epic Games Store again for the next few days. This time it's a special occasion, as one of the most popular characters in the world of video games celebrates its 30th anniversary. When SEGA released Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991, the company aimed to compete against a titan. Nintendo was the main referent in the world of video games with the Super Mario series, but Sega needed a game that would make the Sega Genesis console popular among the players. Thirty years later, Sonic the Hedgehog is an iconic character whose games have sold millions of copies becoming one of the bestselling video game franchises in history. The gameplay of Sonic games has evolved through the years but they maintain the same level of frenetic speed and platform action that made them so popular in the beginning. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the character, you can get Sonic Mania for free on PC via Epic Games Store.

Sonic Mania pays homage to the main installments in the series and it was produced to commemorate its 25th anniversary. It's a platformer that offers you twelve different levels where Sonic and his friends Tails and Knuckles will try to defeat the evil Doctor Eggman. The game features fast-paced side-scrolling gameplay in 2D as you traverse scenarios at top speed while jumping and rolling to strike and defeat a variety of EggRobots. 

If platformers are not your thing and you prefer racing games, Epic Games Store also offers you Horizon Chase Turbo for free until July 1st. This tribute to classic arcade racers lets you drive at top speed through 111 tracks as you compete in 12 different cups. With 33 cars to unlock and retro graphics, the game reminisces of titles like Out Run, but it also features a multiplayer mode that allows you to compete with up to three other friends on split-screen.
