Update 1.0.3 is the cleanup Palworld 1.0 needed
Palworld’s massive 1.0 release gave players plenty of new things to chase, but it also brought some serious late-game grinding along for the ride. With update v1.0.3, Pocketpair isn’t trying to win players over with another giant content drop. Instead, the studio is going back through the endgame and making some of its most frustrating systems much easier to deal with.
One of the biggest improvements targets World Tree Holy Water, an important late-game resource that quickly became a pain point for players. Update 1.0.3 makes Holy Water last longer, reduces its weight from 1 to 0.1 and adds more ways to obtain it, including World Tree expeditions, fishing and the Large Fishing Pond. Players can also collect more of it from Pals around the World Tree and from Teafant Spring. Basically, less repetitive farming and more time actually playing the fun parts of Palworld.
Progression has been loosened up elsewhere too. Some Jetragon-related technologies now unlock at level 70 instead of level 79, while the materials needed for its riding gear have been reduced. The Aquatic Construction Kit received an even more dramatic change, dropping from level 66 to level 23 and requiring fewer Ancient Technology Points. That means players who enjoy building can start experimenting with water-based bases much earlier.
Less grinding around the base
Resource production and base management have also received some welcome attention. Construction costs have been lowered for the Crude Oil Extractor, High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor and Large Power Generator, while Crude Oil Extractors now produce oil faster. Fiber obtained from trees has been doubled, and Ancient Armor requires less work to craft.
There are plenty of bug fixes packed into the update as well. Pocketpair has addressed issues where summoned Pals could stop fighting, base Pals could suddenly stop working and raid boss battles could fail to progress. Building problems involving stairs and slanted roofs have also been fixed, alongside several crashes, multiplayer problems and console-specific issues.
It might not sound as exciting as dozens of new Pals or another enormous island, but v1.0.3 is exactly the kind of update Palworld needed after 1.0. Pocketpair is clearly looking at where players are getting frustrated and sanding down those rough edges, making the late game faster, smoother and much easier to enjoy.
