COSMOS 7.0 Overhauls Space Exploration in No Man’s Sky
After celebrating its 10th anniversary last month, Hello Games is continuing to expand No Man’s Sky with COSMOS, the newly released 7.0 update. This time, rather than focusing on a particular planet, vehicle, or individual system, the developer is turning its attention back to space itself, a core part of the game since its earliest days.
Space in No Man’s Sky Is Finally Changing
The idea behind COSMOS is fairly simple: turn space from an empty stretch used mainly to travel between planets into a place where players have more reasons to stop, explore, and build. Hello Games has introduced a new Star System Map that lets players discover various points of interest across each system, opening up additional activities and missions in space.
One of the new additions is massive space hulks that players can approach and salvage for materials. Valuable components can be stripped from these wrecks, but taking too much also comes with the risk of destabilizing them and causing an explosion.
COSMOS also significantly expands the building system. Asteroid belts are no longer just sources of resources, as some larger asteroids can now serve as locations for bases. Players can go even further by constructing free-floating orbital bases in space, ranging from stops for passing starships to completely creative structures of their own design.
Space Stations have also received one of the update’s most notable changes. Players can take on a station management role, customize both its interior and exterior, and turn it into a location with its own identity. From there, the new Alliance system allows multiple Travellers to come together, build networks of Space Stations, and compete on new leaderboards.
COSMOS also introduces deep-space outposts, bio-wrecks, the ability to travel closer to the stars at the center of each system, and several other changes to space exploration. Hello Games is also launching a new Expedition called Our Journey Continues, designed as a journey through the 40 major updates that have helped shape No Man’s Sky over the past 10 years.
After a decade of continuous expansion, COSMOS shows that Hello Games still has plenty of ideas left for No Man’s Sky. More importantly, rather than simply making its universe broader, this update goes back to one of the game’s most fundamental elements and gives it new depth, turning the space between planets into a more meaningful part of the gameplay experience.
COSMOS 7.0 is now available as a free update for No Man’s Sky players across supported platforms. Visit the game’s official website for more details and the full patch notes, and don’t forget to check our price comparison platform to buy No Man’s Sky with plenty of discount.
