Monster Hunter Wilds Players Debate Performance After DLC Bug

Monster Hunter Wilds DLC Bug Sparks Performance Debate

Monster Hunter Wilds has recently faced backlash from PC players due to a strange performance issue linked to downloadable content ownership. Reports suggest that the game runs significantly better when all available DLC is owned or installed, leading to widespread confusion and frustration within the community. What initially sounded like a joke quickly became a serious discussion about optimization and design flaws.

The issue surfaced when players tested the game on identical hardware using different Steam accounts. Accounts with little or no DLC reportedly suffered heavy frame-rate drops, especially in hub areas, while accounts with full DLC access experienced smoother performance. In some cases, the difference was dramatic, with FPS nearly doubling under the same system conditions. This discovery quickly spread across Reddit and gaming media outlets.

Technical analysis from the community points toward an inefficient background system that constantly checks DLC ownership. Monster Hunter Wilds reportedly includes a large number of small DLC items, such as cosmetic packs and vouchers. When these are not owned, the game may repeatedly verify their status during gameplay, causing unnecessary CPU strain and performance loss. When all DLC is detected as present, these checks appear to be reduced or skipped.

Capcom has not confirmed that this behavior is intentional, and most players believe it to be an unintended optimization bug rather than a deliberate monetization strategy. Mods that simulate full DLC ownership have demonstrated performance improvements, further supporting the theory. However, Capcom has warned that unofficial fixes may cause instability. Until an official patch directly addresses the DLC-checking system, Monster Hunter Wilds’ PC performance remains a point of concern and debate among fans.
