Nintendo Direct Reveals Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero for Switch 2
In a surprise reveal during today's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Bandai Namco confirmed that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will officially launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, as well as the current Nintendo Switch. The highly anticipated arena fighter, developed by Spike Chunsoft, is set to arrive in Japan on November 13, 2025, followed by a worldwide release on November 14, 2025.
It's about time!
Originally released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in late 2024, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero reignited the legacy of the Budokai Tenkaichi series with a complete visual overhaul and revamped mechanics. Now, Nintendo fans can look forward to experiencing the high-octane battles, massive character roster, and explosive special moves on both current and next-generation Nintendo hardware.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero features an enormous lineup of 182 playable characters, including multiple transformations and fan-favorite fighters spanning the entirety of the Dragon Ball franchise. Players can engage in rapid-fire melee exchanges and large-scale destruction across fully 3D arenas. As a bonus, the miniature version of Goku is being offered as a pre-order exclusive.
Beyond its versus gameplay, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero includes a story mode titled "Episode Battle," where players can relive the saga through the perspectives of eight iconic characters such as Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Frieza. This mode features branching dialogue choices and alternate outcomes based on player decisions. Additionally, the new "Custom Battle" mode allows fans to create, edit, and share their own unique battle scenarios online.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is set to include platform-specific enhancements, such as faster load times, improved resolution up to 4K, and full compatibility with GameShare features. Meanwhile, the original Nintendo Switch edition will offer a slightly scaled-down experience while still supporting core gameplay and motion controls. Spike Chunsoft has reportedly optimized both versions to make full use of their respective hardware capabilities. The announcement was one of several third-party highlights during the July 2025 Nintendo Direct, which also featured titles like Persona 3 Reload, Octopath Traveler 0, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. However, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero stole the spotlight for many fans, especially those eager to bring the franchise's signature combat to handheld play.
With over 5 million copies sold across its initial platforms, the arrival of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero on Nintendo consoles marks a major milestone in the franchise's history. Its combination of nostalgic gameplay, cutting-edge graphics, and robust multiplayer features positions it as one of the most anticipated titles for longtime fans of the Dragon Ball series. The game launches for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on November 14, 2025 worldwide, and you will find the best deals to pre-order Dragon Ball: Sparking!
