Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO's biggest DLC arrives soon
If Dragon Ball has taught fans anything over the years, it's that there's always another transformation waiting around the corner. Just when Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO seemed to have exhausted its supply of power-ups, Bandai Namco has announced Super Limit-Breaking NEO, a huge new DLC arriving on July 30 that expands the game's roster, introduces a brand-new single-player experience, and shakes up battles with fresh mechanics.
Many new fighters and more!
Rather than simply dropping a handful of new fighters into the arena and calling it a day, Super Limit-Breaking NEO introduces Limit Breaker Journey, a new solo mode that leans into RPG-style progression. Players choose a character and guide them through a branching path of increasingly difficult battles, improving their stats, unlocking powerful Battle Arts, and customizing their abilities along the way. It's a welcome twist for a series built on impossible power scaling—because apparently punching harder wasn't enough anymore.
Of course, this is still Dragon Ball, so the DLC doesn't skimp on the spectacle. Super Limit-Breaking NEO adds an impressive total of 33 playable characters spanning multiple eras of the franchise, including heroes and villains from Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball GT. Four new battle stages, extra costumes, fresh skills, and four new Episode Battles also join the package, giving fans even more excuses to recreate iconic showdowns or invent wildly unbalanced dream matches of their own.
The update launching alongside the DLC also brings something for every player, even those who don't plan to pick up the expansion. A free patch will introduce the new "Sparking! Boost" system, a high-risk, high-reward mechanic that lets fighters burn a large amount of Skill Stock for an enormous temporary power increase during Sparking! Mode. The catch? Once the boost wears off, your character becomes noticeably weaker for a short time, turning every activation into a calculated gamble instead of an automatic win button.
Producer Jun Furutani says the goal was to make players feel even more connected to their favorite fighters by adding meaningful progression and customization beyond the traditional versus battles. The new systems encourage experimentation, allowing players to shape characters to suit different playstyles while tackling a new kind of single-player challenge.
The DLC is the biggest post-launch expansions for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO to date, including the Daima Character Pack and the Hero of Justice Pack. Previous updates largely focused on expanding the already enormous roster, but Super Limit-Breaking NEO goes a step further by giving players new ways play with those characters. For a game that is already one of the most popular in the Dragon Ball franchise for its chaotic arena battles and staggering lineup of fighters, this expansion is like the next evolution.
