Cities: Skylines II is finally getting mod support

Cities: Skylines II is a city-building game developed by Colossal Order and published by Paradox Interactive. The game is a sequel to 2015's Cities: Skylines and expands upon many of its simulation factors such as simulated city and population sizes with improved traffic AI and management schemes. It was released for Windows on October 24, 2023, and is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in Q2 2024.

Recently in a post on March 18, the developers of Cities: Skylines II officially announced that the game will get mod support in the latest update, along with its first asset patch. This is extremely exciting news for fans of this city-building simulation game, considering the game had a rather rough start in 2023. Paradox Interactive even warned players that the game wouldn't perform as expected at launch, but it was quickly addressed in a major update.

This latest update will features the first asset patch of the game, including:

  • Waterfront Zone: A new residential zoning option dedicated to waterfront buildings allows you to redefine your city's coastline.
  • Beach Properties: Each theme adds growable residential buildings waiting to populate your new waterfront zone, from luxurious waterfront mansions to charming beachside cottages.
  • Signature Waterfront Buildings: Tailored to fit into European or North American architectural themes, these signature buildings are crafted to highlight your city’s beachfront.
  • 10 North American residential buildings with three levels (30 assets)
  • 10 European residential buildings with three levels (30 assets)
  • Six signature buildings
  • Four New trees

And of course, mod support as well, including Map Editor, Code Tools:

With Mods (short for modifications), you can tailor your gaming experience to your unique preferences. Uploaded by creators all over the world, you can pick between anything to create the city of your dreams. Along with Beach Properties, the first wave of Cities: Skylines II Modding will be available. The Beta release of Modding will initially support Map and Code mods.

With the Map Editor, you can make maps with the Terraforming Tools you’re used to, import heightmaps to create highly accurate depictions of your hometown, and upload your creations to Paradox Mods.

With the Code Tools, you can show off your coding skills and create Code Mods to meet your heart's desire!

This new update promises to bring a breath of fresh air to both old and new players alike. Now, players can freely create their dream city, tailor the game to their preferences, and share it with other players. Paradox Interactive has also posted mod creation guidelines for those interested here.

The Beach Properties Asset Pack and mod support are set to drop on 25th March. Make sure to use dLcompare's price comparison tool to get the best offer for Cities: Skylines II.
