Grind, Craft, Slay: RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 Is Now Live

25 Years In, RuneScape Finally Reaches Consoles With Dragonwilds

After nearly a year and a half in Steam Early Access, Jagex's survival-crafting spin-off RuneScape: Dragonwilds reached version 1.0 on September 15. It launched simultaneously on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store and the Jagex Launcher), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, making it the first RuneScape game to reach consoles in the franchise's 25-year history.

For newcomers, Dragonwilds is an open-world survival game for solo players or co-op groups of up to four, set on Ashenfall, a previously unexplored continent of Gielinor where dragons have awoken and untamed magic spills across the land. Familiar RuneScape skills level up to 99, and spells turn survival chores into shortcuts, from blasting ore veins apart to blinking out of danger.

From Early Access to the Dragon Queen

Early Access players have watched Ashenfall grow steadily. The game launched with its first two regions, Brynmoor and Ghornfell, and the first Dragon General, Velgar. December 2025 brought Fellhollow, a decaying realm with the corrupted guardian dragon Imaru, magical farming and rideable Terrorbirds. March opened Dowdun Reach, a Zamorakian fortress packed with Black Knights, Blue Dragons and Mithril-tier gear, alongside a Runecrafting overhaul and dedicated servers. Umbral Sands followed as the largest region yet, inspired by RuneScape's Kharidian Desert, adding flying carpet mounts, the Kalphite Queen and Fuzan the Fire Dragon. All of it is included in 1.0.

The headline addition is Scorned Wilderness, the endgame region that closes out Kuldra's Saga. Players can set up a Hub base to prepare before taking on the Regicide quest and the final raid against Kuldra, the God-Eater dragon queen, with Rune armor among the new gear. Jagex also reports fixing more than 2,000 bugs during the push to the gold build and console certification.

Dragonwilds arrives with momentum. It sold more than 600,000 copies in its first week of Early Access, and Jagex now puts total Early Access sales above 1.5 million. On Steam, user reviews sit at around 77 percent positive.

Jagex says 1.0 is a milestone, not a finish line. When the date was announced, executive producer Jesse America said the team was "excited to continue growing RuneScape: Dragonwilds with players for years to come." Day-one availability on Game Pass and PS Plus puts the game in front of a far bigger audience, and the next few months will show how much room it has to grow.
