Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a dark fantasy, third-person action-adventure set in a corrupted Edo-period Kyoto where myth and horror collide.
You play as the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, drawn into a brutal struggle against the demonic Genma that have overtaken the capital. Armed with a katana and the mysterious Oni Gauntlet, Musashi must cut through grotesque enemies, survive duels against rival warriors, and uncover the truth behind the spreading corruption that warps the world into something both beautiful and terrifying.
The game focuses on precise sword combat built around timing, parries, and counterattacks. Every clash rewards control and awareness: well-timed deflections can break enemy posture, opening them up to devastating finishing strikes. Alongside standard swordplay, the Oni Gauntlet grants supernatural abilities fueled by absorbed souls, allowing players to unleash powerful techniques that turn the tide of battle. Combat is designed to feel weighty and cinematic, emphasizing the impact of every strike rather than rapid button-mashing.
Exploration takes place across semi-linear environments filled with hidden paths, environmental hazards, and haunting set pieces. The world is steeped in a suffocating sense of decay—fog-drenched streets, abandoned shrines, and war-torn districts overrun by otherworldly horrors. Between battles, players can recover, upgrade abilities, and prepare for increasingly dangerous encounters.
Blending modern action design with the spirit of the classic Onimusha series, Way of the Sword aims to deliver a grounded yet stylized samurai experience: methodical combat, cinematic presentation, and a relentless focus on dueling mastery against both human and demonic foes.
