The Forgotten City is a standalone game based on an award-winning Skyrim mod that sets players off on a murder-mystery investigation in an ancient underground city, where they'll grapple with themes including morality, modern society, humanism, and time travel. This mature narrative-driven game has an open-world ancient Roman City to explore while you solve problems with every option you can think of, even exploiting the time-loop.

Trapped in a secret underground city during the Roman Empire, twenty-six lost souls cling to life. In this precarious utopia, if one person breaks the mysterious Golden Rule, everyone dies. As a time-traveler who has been drawn two thousand years into the past, you’ll relive their final moments in an endless loop, exploring and interrogating, and changing the course of the day with each secret you uncover.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the 'Golden Rule' to kill multiple people at once?
Yes, but there are consequences. Breaking the Golden Rule, even indirectly, triggers the city's punishment, so careful planning is essential.
Does the punishment reset if I simply reload a previous save?
Yes, reloading a save resets the current timeline and allows you to attempt events again, but the knowledge of prior events remains.
Can I permanently change the city's environment by, for example, destroying a bridge?
No. Due to the time loop mechanics, any significant change will be reset, although some physical items or their location can be altered.
How does the game track what I have discovered across multiple loops?
The player retains their knowledge and any items carried between loops, allowing you to bypass obstacles or solve puzzles more efficiently.
If I pickpocket an item and get caught, is the item lost forever?
No, you can retrieve the item in subsequent loops, provided you know where and when to find it again.
Can I speed up or slow down the pace of the Golden Rule punishment?
The punishment is instant and city-wide once triggered. There is no way to alter the speed or the form of its execution.
Do choices I make affect the ending of the game?
Yes, your actions and conversations with the citizens of the Forgotten City influence which of the game's multiple endings you will achieve.
Is it possible to experience every quest and conversation in a single loop?
No, the complexity of the narrative and the time loop mechanics necessitate multiple loops to experience all the available content.
Can I use the time loop to skip sections of the game?
Yes, by utilizing the knowledge gained in previous loops, you can bypass certain puzzles or speed up progress by knowing the right choices to make.
If I die during a loop, does the loop reset?
Yes, dying, or triggering the Golden Rule, will reset the loop to your last saved state, allowing you to try again with the gained knowledge.
