FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

: What is the core 'Ex Voto' mechanic, and how does it influence gameplay?
The 'Ex Voto' mechanic involves making sacrifices of in-game resources (like health, sanity, or items) to gain divine favor or unlock potent abilities. This creates a risk-reward system where players must constantly weigh the cost of their actions against their potential benefits.; How does the 'divine favor' system work, and what are its tangible effects?
Divine favor is a meta-currency earned through specific actions and Ex Voto offerings. It can be spent to influence random events, buff your character, curse enemies, or even alter the environment, providing a layer of strategic interaction with the game's supernatural elements.; Can you explain the 'Sanity' system and its interaction with Ex Voto offerings?
Sanity acts as a resource that depletes when encountering horrifying events or making certain Ex Voto sacrifices. Low sanity can lead to visual and auditory hallucinations, altered enemy behavior, and can even unlock unique, albeit dangerous, abilities tied to the game's darker themes.; What are 'Echoes of the Past,' and how do they impact the player's journey?
Echoes of the Past are fragmented memories or spectral visions that players can uncover by interacting with specific environmental triggers or through successful Ex Voto rituals. These provide lore, hints, and sometimes unlock unique gameplay sequences or optional objectives.; How does the game balance the power gained from Ex Voto sacrifices with potential negative consequences?
The balance is maintained through the 'Penance' system. Every powerful boon gained via Ex Voto incurs Penance, which manifests as increasingly challenging enemy encounters, environmental hazards, or negative status effects. Managing Penance is crucial for survival.; Are there different 'Deities' or 'Powers' to align with, and how does this affect the Ex Voto mechanic?
Yes, players can choose to appease various divine or infernal entities. Each has unique boons, specific sacrifice requirements, and associated risks. Aligning with a particular power drastically changes the available Ex Voto options and the nature of the penalties.; How do environmental interactions tie into the Ex Voto system?
Certain environmental elements can be 'purified' or 'corrupted' through Ex Voto offerings, altering enemy spawns, unlocking hidden paths, or providing temporary buffs/debuffs. This encourages players to experiment with sacrifices in different locations.; What is the role of 'Ritual Sites' in the game?
Ritual Sites are specific locations where players can perform more elaborate Ex Voto rituals. These often require a greater investment of resources but yield more significant rewards or unique story progression opportunities.; How do enemy encounters change based on the player's Ex Voto choices and divine favor?
Enemies can become more aggressive or manifest unique behaviors based on the player's alignment and the amount of divine favor they've accumulated. High favor might attract powerful divine protectors, while hubris could summon zealous tormentors.; Is there a permanent consequence for failed or poorly managed Ex Voto offerings?
While immediate consequences exist, the 'Corruption' system tracks persistent negative effects from reckless sacrifices. High Corruption can permanently alter certain game mechanics, NPC interactions, or even the game's ending, adding a layer of long-term consequence to player decisions.

Genuinely impressed. Took control of Aeta, this absolute unit of a female knight errant in plague-era Italy, and the whole cinematic story hooked me hard. The quest to save her closest one hits different. Great voice acting, emotional cutscenes, and that chivalric vibe feels fresh as hell. Combat is the real star: stance switching between one-handed and two-handed swords, skill books for new combos, and it actually feels like real medieval swordplay (HEMA-inspired, no spam nonsense). Exploration through villages, castles and the Apennines looks stunning too, especially the attention to 14th-century details
