EA Sports FC 27 introduces The Grounds

The Grounds: A new way to play EA Sports FC 27
Gameplay

The release of EA Sports FC 27 is around the corner. As the new installment in the popular football simulation series, the game will introduce a series of novelties to keep the fans hooked one year more. The most sifnificant one is giving the old Clubs mode a significant makeover with The Grounds, a new social and gameplay space designed to bring players together between competitive matches. After first announcing the new mode in August, EA has revealed more details about it recently.

Instead of navigating through a series of menus before every activity, players can now enter a shared football environment where they can meet other players, practice, compete in smaller games, and progress their Pro. The Grounds is designed around the player's Archetype, with up to 100 players able to occupy the same social space. The environment is split into three districts connected by a central area known as The Terrace, creating a persistent hub where different types of football activities are available.

A new home for Clubs

The biggest change introduced by The Grounds is the way EA Sports FC 27 approaches the Clubs experience. The hub is not simply a decorative menu replacement. Players can freely explore the environment, interact with other players, locate activities and move between different forms of football without constantly returning to a traditional interface. The Grounds is available from the start, meaning players do not have to unlock its different areas before they can explore them. This makes the new environment the central meeting point for Clubs and gives the mode a more social structure.

This mode also expands the scope of the experience further. Not every session in The Grounds is built around a traditional football match. Players can participate in 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 Street Football, offering shorter and more immediate games that put the emphasis on individual ability and quick combinations. These smaller formats should also provide a useful alternative for players who want to play with friends without committing to a full-length Clubs match. The compact format puts more attention on every touch, while the reduced number of players creates considerably more space to influence the game.

The Grounds also features Kickabouts, a collection of smaller activities designed to offer something different from conventional football matches. Among the activities revealed by EA are Bocce Ball, Balloon Ball and Bucketball. These activities are deliberately more playful than the competitive Clubs formats. They give players another reason to explore The Grounds and provide opportunities to spend time with friends without necessarily focusing on winning a traditional football match. EA is also adding Volley Targets, where players can generate a ball and attempt to hit targets with accurately timed volleys. Weekly targets give the activity a rotating objective and provide another reason to return to the hub.

Your Pro can progress through The Grounds

The new environment is also tied directly to player progression. Activities in The Grounds can contribute to developing your Pro, with AXP and Grounds Coins among the rewards available through gameplay. This creates a progression loop that connects casual activities with the wider Clubs experience. Players can spend time experimenting with different activities, develop their Archetype and then take their improved Pro into more competitive experiences. The system also gives Archetypes greater relevance outside traditional matches. Rather than treating The Grounds purely as a social lobby, EA has designed it as another part of the progression ecosystem surrounding Clubs.

Club Tournaments bring competitive events

The Grounds isn't limited to casual activities. Club Tournaments will provide more structured competitions with their own rules, objectives and rewards. One of the announced examples is a Classic Stadium 11v11 tournament, bringing the full traditional Clubs experience into the new environment. These events are intended to give Clubs additional competitive objectives alongside the regular League and Playoff structure. Players can therefore move between different levels of intensity: a quick Street Football match, a Kickabout with friends, progression activities and eventually a full-scale competitive Clubs match.

A constantly evolving football playground

EA is also building The Grounds as a space that can evolve throughout the EA Sports FC 27 cycle. Seasonal campaigns can change the environment, introduce new activities and provide additional rewards and customization content. This live-service approach could make the hub considerably more useful than a conventional social lobby. New challenges and limited-time activities can give players reasons to return even after they have become familiar with its basic layout.

Ultimately, The Grounds changes the role of Clubs in EA Sports FC 27. The mode is no longer solely about assembling a team and entering another match. EA is attempting to create a persistent football playground where players can socialize, develop their Pro, compete in quick games and eventually step onto the pitch for larger Club competitions.
