The Division 2 might be getting a spin-off

It seems that the developers of Tom Clancy's The Division 2 are already thinking about a new project. That's what you can get from the question asked by TT Games designer Tim Spencer on Twitter. He wonders about the idea of a narrative game based on the world of The Division 2, where an agent was sent to NYC, during the SHD blackout from the fall of DC. What seemed to be just an idea was hastily responded by the game's creative director Julian Gerighty, who shared Tim Spencer's tweet and proceeded to inquire about players' opinion on the matter.

The idea is getting a fairly enthusiastic response in the social platform, and even if this doesn´t mean that the development of said The Division 2 spin-off would be happening, it's undeniable that such a favorable response towards the idea of a certain game would be a great starting point if Ubisoft finally decided to go for it. The lore behind The Division and The Division 2 had obviously a lot to do with the creative mind of Tom Clancy, but now that he is not among us it may be a good idea to delve a bit deeper in that lore through other means. Spencer thinks the same, as he explained on his post that “None of the stories have explored what a Division agent sacrifices, and what they go through mentally. When you think about it: it’s a pretty dark/epic thing – there’s huge opportunity to tell some incredible stories there.” It would be quite interesting to see if Ubisoft can develop The Division franchise beyond the first two games from a totally different point of view by creating a different type of game that would help to shape the fictional universe of the games. Probably, one of the problems behind that could be that the games don´t really focus on any specific character with a personal story. Ubisoft is probably not interested in coming up with a game that may shift the attention from the background story of The Division 2 and focus it on a single character.

Whatever happens in the future of the franchise we can be sure that Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is staying for a while in our lives, especially with all the free content that they are rolling out this year for the game.
