Subnautica 2 Early Access Roadmap Unveiled After Huge Launch
Unknown Worlds Entertainment has shared the first official Early Access roadmap for Subnautica 2, giving players a clearer look at how the underwater survival sequel will evolve over the coming months. Following the game's hugely successful launch, the studio confirmed that multiple updates are already in development, with plans to expand both gameplay systems and story content throughout the Early Access period.
Ambitious ideas and the long road ahead
The roadmap outlines a steady rollout of improvements, beginning with a major focus on quality-of-life changes. The first planned update will introduce gameplay refinements aimed at making exploration and base management smoother. Features currently being worked on include better vehicle docking, upgraded fabrication systems, improved wreck exploration, and expanded biomod functionality. Unknown Worlds is also adding a sprint mechanic, one of the community's most requested features since launch.
Alongside those changes, the developers are planning improvements to inventory management and additional customization options for players. The studio said these early updates are intended to refine the core experience before larger content expansions arrive later in development.
A second major update will place a heavier emphasis on cooperative play. Subnautica 2 marks the first official multiplayer entry in the series, allowing up to four players to survive together, and Unknown Worlds appears committed to expanding those systems further. Planned additions include in-game voice chat, player trading, revive mechanics, animated emotes, and more detailed player customization tools. The update will also improve HUD readability and introduce additional base-building enhancements.
Beyond the initial roadmap milestones, the developer confirmed that future updates will introduce entirely new biomes, creatures, vehicles, tools, and story chapters. While exact release windows have not been announced, Unknown Worlds described the roadmap as flexible, explaining that player feedback will heavily influence the direction and priority of future content.
The Early Access roadmap arrives after an enormous launch for the game. Subnautica 2 quickly became one of Steam's biggest survival releases, attracting massive player numbers within hours of release. The strong debut appears to have given the studio momentum following a difficult development period that reportedly involved delays and internal disputes tied to publisher Krafton.
Unknown Worlds has reiterated that community feedback will remain central throughout development, encouraging players to continue submitting suggestions and bug reports through the game's feedback tools. With months of planned updates still ahead, the studio confirms that Subnautica 2 currently is a long-term evolving survival experience rather than a finished product.
For fans of the franchise, the roadmap offers a promising glimpse at what lies ahead. If you want to experience how the game evolves and grows over the following months, use our comparator to find the best offers for Subnautica 2 and get ready to dive underwater today.
