Subnautica 2 looks beautiful, creepy, and very easy to get lost in
Subnautica 2 is still being built, polished, and tuned in Early Access, but the good news is that things are already looking pretty strong. Players have jumped into the new alien ocean, and so far, the vibe around the game has been really positive. It still has that classic Subnautica feeling of “just one more dive” before you realize you have been exploring for hours. The world feels mysterious, dangerous, and beautiful all at the same time, which is exactly what fans wanted from a proper new entry.
One thing that new players should learn fast is this: scan everything. Seriously, everything. Weird plant? Scan it. Strange fish? Scan it. Creepy alien thing staring at you from the dark? Maybe run first, but scan it if you can. Scanning is a huge part of how you understand the world, unlock useful information, and push your progression forward. Subnautica 2 is not the kind of game where you just rush from marker to marker. It rewards curiosity, and the scanner is basically your best friend down there.
The ocean looks gorgeous, but it still wants you dead
The game also looks fantastic already. The underwater lighting, the alien biomes, the creature designs, and the way the environment opens up around you make exploration feel special. There is always something glowing in the distance, something moving in the corner of your screen, or some deep dark area that makes you question if you really want to go down there. That mix of beauty and fear is where Subnautica works best, and the sequel seems to understand that very well.
Unknown Worlds is also moving quickly with hotfixes and patches whenever the game needs them. The latest hotfix made some important early adjustments, including adding more Silver in early areas, more Troilite in late-game areas, and changing Hammerhead behavior so they are less annoying around Tadpole lights. It also fixed crashes, multiplayer disconnect issues, oxygen bugs, and some performance problems.
Subnautica 2 is not finished yet, but it already feels like a game worth watching closely. And if you want to dive in yourself, make sure to use our price comparison tool to find the best prices for Subnautica 2 before buying.
