Enter the Chronosphere: Superhot Meets Bullet Hell Chaos
Enter the Chronosphere is an action roguelike and top-down shooter that adds turn-based tactics into the mix. The game has been developed by Effort Star and published by Joystick Ventures, Gamirror Games, and Beep Japan Inc.
The game's release date has been pushed back to May 25, 2026. It was originally scheduled for May 14, but the publisher proactively delayed the schedule to avoid a clash with another blockbuster on Steam, Subnautica 2. Dive into the mechanics and plot of this game with us!
Ultimate tactics where time only moves when you act
The game follows the crew of the starship Starseer in their fight against a cosmic threat: giant spheres called "Chronospheres" that are devouring the fabric of reality and pushing the entire galaxy toward doom. Players will control the last surviving members of alien races, infiltrating the hearts of randomly generated Chronospheres to destroy them from within and save the universe.
Enter the Chronosphere features a unique mechanic: time only moves when you act. This concept is similar to the famous game Superhot, but applied to a top-down perspective and roguelike tactics style.
Between player action turns, everything on the screen – from enemies to dense bullet hells – will stand still in mid-air. This gives you complete control to observe the battlefield, read enemy movements, calculate bullet trajectories, and plan your next move without any real-time pressure. The developer also added an action synchronization mechanic: when you execute a command (such as moving, shooting, reloading, dodge-rolling, or activating a skill), the surrounding world moves simultaneously with you.
This combination delivers an experience that is tense like a bullet hell and requires the high logical thinking of tactical games. You can dodge-roll through bullet curtains, bounce shotgun blasts off walls, push enemies off cliffs, call in long-range artillery strikes, or time your healing right before taking damage.
Upon its Early Access launch, the game offers 3 directly controllable characters with distinct skill sets:
- Marcia: The last surviving human in the universe, possessing highly mobile dodge-rolling abilities.
- Urtar: A massive bear warrior with the "Kinetic Surge" skill specialized in knocking enemies back.
- Lillypilly: A super cool alien frog.
A total of about 6 characters are planned, along with more than 20 types of general tactics/skills that any team member can unlock and use.
Enter the Chronosphere also features an incredibly eccentric arsenal of weapons and equipment. The game allows combining items and weapons from different worlds to create bizarre character builds. For instance, you can use a long-range sweeping laser gun, use ricocheting ammunition, or upgrade a chainsaw to implant parasitic eggs into enemies and detonate them like mobile bombs.
The game also features a diverse map system, as each Chronosphere consists of fragments from the worlds it has devoured. Therefore, each run offers randomly generated maps with entirely different mission objectives, enemies, physical anomalies, and rewards (for example, collecting coordinates from an insect-infested world or searching for a shiny six-shooter in a Wild West region).
The Early Access build is expected to provide over 40 hours of gameplay for players to grind and unlock long-term features, with an average run duration lasting about 30 to 45 minutes.
There is currently a trial version available on Steam that has received "Very Positive" feedback from players. The community highly praises the unique crossover concept, which delivers a game pace that is depends on the player's processing speed. If you are looking for a game that doesn't lack peak action moments, then this is the perfect choice for you! Remember to use our comparison tool to buy Enter the Chronosphere at the cheapest price!
