Mortal Kombat 1 characters will have new origins

Mortal Kombat 1 news flies fast and thick now that pre-orders are live. One of Mortal Kombat’s co-creators, Ed Boon, has teased that MK characters will be receiving new origin stories for the latest installment. See his tweet here:

The recent MK1 trailer has already hinted as much. For instance, Mileena, who is known to be a creation of Shang Tsung and a servant of Shao Khan, is an ally of Kitana in this continuity. Apparently, Fire God Liu Kang has decided that the sisters should have a more cordial—and possibly more complicated—relationship.

That’s not all. The trailer also shows Raiden living as a mortal and working the fields. Meanwhile, mortal enemies Sub-zero and Scorpion appear to be starting off as allies, if not friends. Who knows what else Mortal Kombat 1 will bring, but we’re sure to know more when the beta tests start this August.

Combat space

Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 1’s Steam page has released its PC requirements. While they aren’t particularly demanding, the game does require a whopping 100 GB of space, roughly the same as Mortal Kombat 11. Apparently, all the dialogue and story cutscenes will take up much of the game.

Here are Mortal Kombat 1’s minimum requirements:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 or Ryzen 5 2600
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 or AMD Radeon RX 470 or Intel Arc A750
  • Storage: 100 GB

Here are the recommended system requirements:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or Intel Arc A770
  • Storage: 100 GB

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
