Lords of the Fallen II May Finally Arrive on Steam
CI Games may have quietly changed the future of Lords of the Fallen II. After ending its publishing and distribution agreement with Epic Games, the company has regained full control over the game's PC release strategy in a move that could pave the way for a launch on Steam and dramatically expand the sequel's reach.
Aiming for a bigger community
The original agreement between CI Games and Epic positioned Lords of the Fallen II as an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC. At the time, the deal was seen as another high-profile attempt by Epic to secure major third-party titles for its storefront. However, exclusivity agreements have remained controversial within the PC gaming community, where Steam continues to dominate both market share and user engagement.
That situation changed in April 2026, when CI Games officially terminated the agreement and reclaimed the game’s distribution rights. While neither company disclosed the financial or strategic reasons behind the decision, the cancellation effectively removes the biggest barrier preventing the game from appearing on Valve's platform.
With an official release scheduled for this year, a Steam launch could have a major impact on the commercial performance of Lords of the Fallen II. Unlike the Epic Games Store, Steam offers a deeply integrated ecosystem built around user reviews, community hubs, mod support, achievements, workshop integration, and algorithm-driven visibility. For action RPGs and Soulslike games in particular, Steam’s community features often play a critical role in maintaining long-term player engagement.
The timing could also work heavily in CI Games' favor. The Soulslike genre has grown substantially in recent years, fueled by the continued success of franchises such as Elden Ring and Dark Souls III. Many players who avoided the Epic Games Store may now reconsider Lords of the Fallen II if the sequel launches on Steam with full platform support from day one.
From a business perspective, abandoning exclusivity may allow CI Games to maximize revenue rather than rely on guaranteed payments tied to storefront agreements. Steam's significantly larger active user base gives publishers access to broader organic discovery, stronger wishlist conversion rates, and higher visibility during seasonal sales and promotional events. For a mid-to-large-scale action RPG, those factors can directly influence launch momentum and long-term sales performance.
There is also the question of community trust. Epic exclusivity deals have historically generated backlash among PC players, particularly when games are part of established franchises. By returning to a wider distribution strategy, CI Games could repair some of the skepticism surrounding the sequel and position itself as more responsive to player demand. Early reaction online already suggests that sentiment around the game has improved following the announcement.
A Steam release could additionally strengthen the title’s multiplayer ecosystem. Soulslike games often depend on healthy player populations for cooperative gameplay, invasions, and community activity. Launching on the largest PC storefront would increase the likelihood of a stable and active online player base during the crucial release window.
Even with the exclusivity deal canceled, CI Games is expected to continue working with Epic on the technical side. Lords of the Fallen II will still use Unreal Engine 5 along with Epic Online Services, meaning the end of the agreement appears to be focused purely on distribution rather than development technology.
Although CI Games has not officially confirmed a Steam page or release date yet, the publisher's regained control over PC distribution has fundamentally changed expectations around the game. If Lords of the Fallen II arrives simultaneously on Steam and Epic Games Store, it could potentially become one of CI Games' biggest launches to date.
