Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is an exception to the rule
The ongoing competition between Microsoft and Sony to gather more players for their platforms will enter a different stage next year. The upcoming release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has generated high expectations among the fans of the legendary archaeologist and adventurer. The announcement of the game had a very positive reception as Indy has always been a favourite of the fans, however, there were certain doubts about the game's availability. Since Microsoft bought Bethesda Softworks, the games created by the studio have been subject to be used as ammunition in the war between PlayStation and Xbox. Making a popular game exclusive to a certain platform can secure a good number of sales, and it's a common strategy that has been used quite a few times over the years by both Sony and Microsoft. However, this will not be the case for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Once in a blue moon?
This year's Gamescom has left us with many announcements and exciting reveals. One of them was the release date of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which will be playable on PC and Xbox Series X/S on December 9, 2024. So far, everything looks normal. It would be quite understandable to see the game released exclusively for Microsoft's platforms, but it seems that the company is taking a new approach to the competition with Sony. In a recent interview, Phil Spencer acknowledged that their original idea of releasing the game as an exclusive has changed. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be playable on PlayStation consoles, just a few months later. According to some reports, the new adventure starring Indy would be available to play on PS5 next spring.
Statistics matter, and it's more beneficial for Microsoft to release its titles across a wider range of platforms in order to increase sales. The company earns more from selling games than from producing and selling consoles, and the recent investment in buying renowned development studios will prove to be more profitable the more games are sold. After all, the path to success could just be rather simple maths and focusing on making good games instead of forcing players to buy a console that they do not like. In any case, Sony has probably taken note of this and may react in the future. After all, it's also releasing some of its exclusive games on PC too (quite a bit after they are available on PlayStation, tho).
Hopefuly, we may face a future where games are accessible no matter what platform you choose to play them. Until that happens, your best option is to use our comparator to check out the best deals on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to join Indy in his new adventure.
