Frostpunk 2 expands its Horizon with a new DLC: Fractured Utopias

Almost a year after revealing the official post-launch roadmap for the game, Polish developer 11 bit studios has officially revealed the first downloadable content (DLC) for Frostpunk 2, titled Fractured Utopias. The announcement, accompanied by a new trailer, confirms that the expansion will launch on December 8, 2025 across PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG) and console platforms, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Frostpunk 2: Fractured Utopias focuses on enhancing the game's "Utopia Builder" mode, adding depth, structure, and a stronger narrative layer to what was previously a more sandbox-style experience. Players will face meaningful choices that shape not just their city, but the ideological and moral direction of their society.

The expansion will introduce eight distinct factions, each with its own "Utopia Tree" that players can develop by gaining trust and unlocking unique laws, buildings, and abilities. Each faction will provide a different strategic path, offering players varied approaches to city management and survival. In total, there are 12 new unlocks per faction, alongside eight new faction-specific hubs and housing variants that bring fresh visual and tactical options to the game.

Narrative content will also be expanded with over 100 new events, two premium stories titled "Doomsayers" and "Plague," and a brand-new map to explore. This infusion of events and storytelling elements will ensure that the Utopia mode feels more alive, with consequences that go beyond simple resource management.

For players, this DLC represents more than just new buildings or maps; it will redefine the Utopia Builder mode. Strategic decision-making will carry weight, as the chosen faction will influence both gameplay mechanics and narrative outcomes. This approach encourages multiple playthroughs to explore different societal paths and see how each faction's philosophy impacts the city's survival and evolution.
