Grand Theft Auto fans will have a lot to be grateful for this holiday season. Rockstar Games has finally confirmed rumors that it is remastering three GTA games: Grand Theft Auto III, San Andreas, and Vice City. The entire package will be called Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - the Definitive Edition.
Rumors of a GTA remaster in the works have been swirling since early this summer, but we had nothing definitive until this trilogy appeared on the South Korean game rating board website. Another giveaway was the new achievement icons for the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy in the Rockstar Games Launcher.
The GTA Trilogy will be available on the PC through the Rockstar Games Launcher. It will also be available for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.
No release date has been announced yet, apart from being released later this year to match up with the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III. However, it will be available for iOS and Android in “early 2022.”
According to Rockstar, the games will receive “across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements.” They have also decided to retain “the classic look and feel of the originals.” We’ll learn more as news updates arrive in the coming weeks.
This remastered trilogy will be an excellent way to introduce new players to a series that has influenced so many open-world games, and will also provide a great lead-in to the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6.
