The King is Watching is a one-of-a-kind roguelite kingdom builder where power lies not in your hands but in your gaze. As the all-seeing monarch, your eyes determine what thrives and what fades. Every moment of attention directly shapes your realm, forcing you to make crucial choices about which parts of your kingdom receive growth, protection, or power. The game features a distinctive mechanic: only the areas under your royal gaze become active. Whether it's harvesting wheat, mining silver, training archers, or building fortifications, your kingdom functions only where you're looking. This creates a compelling layer of strategy, pushing you to constantly balance resource production, military strength, and infrastructure development—all within your limited field of focus.

Each session begins anew, but failure is never the end. As a roguelite, The King is Watching allows you to earn permanent upgrades that carry over between runs. You'll grow stronger with every attempt, unlocking new powers, strategic options, and advantages that bring you closer to enduring rule. Also, your experience will change on every run, because your kingdom evolves. One game may see you battling through haunted graveyards, while another might throw you into volcanic depths or frozen plains. The world is unpredictable, and enemy commanders vary in each scenario, challenging you to adapt your tactics on the fly.

To aid your rule, you'll gain the support of royal counselors, specialized allies like cavalry captains or arcane scholars who offer powerful benefits. Their abilities can tip the balance in your favor, letting you build a kingdom that reflects your playstyle, whether you prefer brute force, tactical defense, or magical supremacy.

Wrapped in charming pixel art and bolstered by polished features like Steam Achievements, Cloud Save, and multilingual support, The King is Watching offers a strategic experience that's as addictive as it is innovative. Every decision matters. Every glance counts. And the crown is watching everything.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the 'Royal Decree' ability multiple times in a single turn, and if so, what are the limitations?
Yes, you can use 'Royal Decree' multiple times, but each use increases the 'King's Temper' by a set amount. Exceeding the temper threshold results in game-altering consequences.
If I successfully identify and denounce a 'Traitor' using the 'Accusation' ability, do I automatically gain any resources or advantages?
Denouncing a 'Traitor' is crucial, but it doesn't automatically grant resources. Instead, it unlocks opportunities tied to that specific 'Traitor' based on their current influence.
How does the 'Whisper Network' ability work in relation to the 'King's Favor' and 'Suspicion' meters?
The 'Whisper Network' allows you to subtly influence the 'King's Favor' or subtly increase 'Suspicion' on specific characters, affecting the narrative but with associated risk.
Is the 'King's Favor' a static resource, or does it dynamically change based on my actions and the actions of other players?
The 'King's Favor' is dynamic. It fluctuates based on your choices, revealed truths, and your rivals’ successes or failures in the court.
What specifically triggers the 'Royal Judgement' event, and what kind of decisions do I have to make during it?
The 'Royal Judgement' is triggered by specific plot developments or by the accumulation of enough 'Suspicion' on characters. During it, you'll have to choose which characters to support or condemn, with lasting effects.
Can I prevent a character from being targeted by the 'Assassination' plot, and how?
Yes, you can protect a character through strategic use of abilities like 'Guard Duty' or by manipulating the 'Suspicion' levels of potential plotters.
How does the 'Influence' stat affect the outcome of conflicts or events within the game?
High 'Influence' improves your chances of swaying the 'King's' decisions and succeeding in political maneuvers, giving you an edge over rivals.
Are the 'Traitor' characters always the same in each playthrough, or is their identity randomized?
The 'Traitor' identity is randomized in each playthrough, adding an element of uncertainty and requiring you to adapt your strategies.
Can I directly trade resources or information with other players, or is all interaction indirect?
Direct trading is limited. Most interactions involve influencing key figures, manipulating events, and indirectly affecting other players' resources and standing.
What are the long-term consequences of consistently gaining high 'Suspicion'?
High 'Suspicion' can lead to increased scrutiny from the 'King', restrictions on your actions, and ultimately, your own downfall.
