    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

If my Guardian dies while I'm in Deathbound mode, what happens?
You are immediately returned to your last checkpoint, with all of your resources reset, but your Guardian’s equipment remains. Deathbound mode ends.
Can I use healing items while in Deathbound mode?
Yes, but healing items are significantly less effective during Deathbound mode. Consider their use carefully.
How does the 'Echo' mechanic affect the environment, and how is it different from other games' environmental interactions?
Echos are persistent, ghostly remnants of past actions. Unlike typical environmental interactions, your actions create and influence the environment for future runs, offering unique puzzles and traversal opportunities based on your previous deaths and actions.
If I switch Guardians mid-Deathbound mode, does the timer reset?
No, the timer continues. Switching Guardians can offer different abilities and strategies, but it doesn't extend your Deathbound window.
    Can I permanently lose a Guardian's equipment?
Yes. If your Guardian's equipment isn't recovered before you activate Deathbound, it may be lost. During Deathbound, successful completion allows recovery; death results in the gear being lost.
What specifically triggers a 'Deathbound' and what are the limitations?
Deathbound is activated by a specific keybind, consuming a special resource. Its duration is limited, and it ends upon timer expiry, Guardian death, or level completion.
How does the game handle checkpoints and save data within a Deathbound loop?
Checkpoints are activated and progress is saved outside of Deathbound mode. Inside Deathbound, checkpoints are skipped. Deathbound completion/failure determines the subsequent checkpoint location and persistence of certain resources and equipment.
Can I affect the 'Echoes' of other players?
No, your Echoes only affect your own gameplay experience. The game is designed around a single-player experience with self-created challenges.
Do different Guardians have different Deathbound durations?
No, the base Deathbound duration is the same for all Guardians. However, upgrades or specific equipment may alter this.
How is resource management, such as ammo or consumable, affected by Deathbound?
Resources are refilled upon Deathbound activation, but the amount of resources is determined by previous gameplay. Certain actions may yield additional resources during a Deathbound run, but they are generally limited.
