    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch between Hero and Dark story campaigns mid-level to experience both sides simultaneously?
No, each stage is locked to either Hero or Dark campaign. You must complete a stage in one campaign before accessing it in the other.
Does the Chao Garden transfer between the GameCube and Dreamcast versions, and if so, how?
Chao Garden data is not directly transferable between the Dreamcast and GameCube versions. The only method to 'transfer' Chao is to breed a Chao in one version and get an egg to hatch in the other version of the game.
In Battle Mode, can two players use the same character, even if that character is a unique story character?
Yes, Battle Mode allows for mirror matches. Two players can choose the same character, including Sonic vs. Sonic or Shadow vs. Shadow.
If I collect all the emblems, do I unlock any new characters or playable content beyond what's available through story completion?
Collecting all emblems unlocks the ability to play as the Hero and Dark Chao Garden stages.
Are there any consequences for ignoring a Chao's needs in the Chao Garden, and do these differ based on the type of Chao?
Yes, neglecting a Chao can lead to unhappiness, reduced stats, and in extreme cases, the Chao becoming a Hero Chao or a Dark Chao. This affects their lifespan and abilities.
How does the 'A-Life' system impact the gameplay and Chao behavior within the Chao Garden, and are these behaviors consistent across different Chao?
The 'A-Life' system governs Chao personalities and interactions, influencing their actions, relationships with other Chao, and development. Specific behaviors and personality traits vary from Chao to Chao.
Can I use the same Chao for both the Hero and Dark Chao Gardens simultaneously, or are they distinct?
Chao are tied to the Garden type where they were raised; a Hero Chao will only stay in the Hero Garden and a Dark Chao will only stay in the Dark Garden.
Does the character's skill or proficiency level up, and if so, how is this progress tracked during the game?
No, there are no level-ups for any character. Progress is tracked through the completion of stages and collecting emblems.
Is there a penalty or advantage to playing a stage with a specific character from the opposing story?
No. You cannot play a stage with a character from the opposing story. Every stage has a pre-determined roster.
Are there any special abilities or techniques that I can perform that are not explained at the beginning of the game?
Yes, some advanced techniques like the 'Light Dash' or specific character attacks are initially obscure and need to be discovered through exploration or experimentation.
