Released in 1993 and developed by Square, now Square Enix, Secret of Mana is a cult 16-bit RPG. And for his 25 years Secret of Mana is getting a makeover to return to our screens.
Indeed, Secret of Mana version 2018, is a 3D remake of the famous RPG. If the look has changed, not only because its graphics given to today's tastes but also because its atmosphere, the game is fully dubbed in English and the story remains the same. That brings the fans of the series a wind of renewal while maintaining what made the game a success. For those who did not play the original 1993 version, in Secret of Mana, you play as a young boy named Randy, accompanied by his friends Prim and Popoi. While playing at the top of a waterfall, the boy loses his balance and falls not far from a powerful that sword he manages to extract from a rock. But back in the village, the Elder does not see this acquisition with a very good eye and bans Randy. He then meets a knight who will give him a quest: finding the seeds of the Mana tree to restore the sword's strength and thus save the world of the evil Empire. It is a long and perilous journey that awaits the boy, but he can count on his companions, Princess Prim, and the amnesiac elf Popoi.
On the gameplay side, there is no big news. Secret of Mana is faithful to the game of 1993. However, the mechanics have been redesigned to adapt them to 3D, especially during the fighting, which emphasizes the real-time, unlike to most RPGs of that time. You can travel the world alternating between battle zones and towns or villages, on foot, but also using cannons that you will unlock during the game, or on the back of a dragon. In combat, Prim and Popoi can use magic, divided into eight elements: water, fire, earth, wind, shadow, light, moon and tree, both for offense and defense.
