The post-launch plans for Windrose are ambitious
Windrose is wasting no time planning its future after an extraordinary launch that pushed the pirate survival game beyond one million copies sold in under a week. Following the title's explosive Early Access debut, developer Kraken Express has now shared the first details about its long-term roadmap, confirming that major new content is already in development.
Ambitious plans need time
The studio revealed that its first large-scale update will introduce a brand-new biome known as the Ashlands. However, players should not expect the expansion anytime soon. According to the developers, the update remains several months away, with the team prioritizing stability and technical improvements before adding major gameplay content.
In a message addressed to the community, Kraken Express thanked players for the overwhelming support that turned Windrose into one of Steam's biggest surprise hits of the year. The developers explained that their immediate focus will be on improving performance, fixing bugs, refining online systems, and implementing quality-of-life features designed to strengthen the overall experience during Early Access.
The studio also emphasized that the current version of Windrose represents only part of its full vision for the game. Future updates are expected to expand the world with additional regions, enemies, progression mechanics, bosses, ships, and cooperative systems. Kraken Express reportedly plans to support the game through an extended Early Access period that could last up to two years or more.
Since launching in April 2026, Windrose has rapidly gained momentum thanks to its blend of naval combat, survival mechanics, exploration, and cooperative gameplay. The game has drawn comparisons to classic pirate adventures while carving out its own identity in the increasingly competitive survival genre.
Windrose has transformed very quickly from an ambitious indie project into one of the platform's standout success stories of 2026. Feel free to use our comparator to get your copy of Windrose at the cheapest price today.
