The Witcher 4 will not be like Cyberpunk 2077
One of the biggest concerns about the future of The Witcher series is that the launch of the next title will be plagued with bugs. This is caused by the situation generated by the release of Cyberpunk 2077. As everyone probably knows, CD Projekt RED's latest game was released in a state that didn't meet the expectations. Big issues with the graphics on previous generation consoles alongside a series of gameplay bugs across all platforms forced the Polish developer studio to apologize, delay any kind of post-launch content, and focus on fixing the game. Fortunately, they managed to do it, and Cyberpunk 2077 managed to recover from one of the worst releases in the story of video games. Even more, the Phantom Liberty expansion would make the game one of the best sci-fi RPGs ever released, boosting its sales to unprecedented numbers and turning it into a must-have for all fans of the genre.
A lesson learned
The upcoming release of The Witcher 4 has evidently raised concerns among the fans of the series, who don't want to go through the same process even if the final results are outstanding. The Witcher 4 game director Sebastian Kalemba has revealed in a recent interview that the studio is very aware of past mistakes and doesn't want to repeat them with The Witcher 4.
"First of all, there were of course struggles right after Cyberpunk, but what defines us is the lesson you got through it."
"So with The Witcher and the new project we are working on right now. Yeah, it's a continuation of the evolution, improvement, and transformation we are going on. To make sure that the vision is there, everybody understands what we are doing. Not just on a project level, it’s a vision for the company level. It's the strategy that we all understand how to participate, so we are all going in the same direction."
The goal is to release the best possible game. However, you probably shouldf expect day one patches and post-launch updates with performance enhancements in the best case, as it seems to be almost impossible to release a game in optimal conditions multiple paltforms nowadays. Also, consoles are changing, and it will be a while until The Witcher 4 is available to play, therefore, adapting the game to future hardware configurations will require plenty of work.
In any case, the hype around The Witcher 4 is through the roof after its presentation at The Game Awards, and this has also had a positive effect on its predecessor. A significant number of players has returned or discovered The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Steam, with a peak of over 45,000 concurrent players on Valve's platform. Until the new installment in the RPG series is available and you can pre-order The Witcher 4, you may want to pay a visit to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and explore the two expansions included in the Expansion Pass, which you can purchase at the best price with our comparator.
