Returnal's no-saving feature has become a problem
It's been just a couple of days since the official release of Returnal on PlayStation 5 and the game has turned out to be quite awesome in most aspects, but there is a single feature that has been driving some players mad: you cannot save your progress in Returnal. In most games in the genre, this is not a huge problem, mainly because the majority of them are quite short indie games and you can play through them in one go without having to invest much time, but in this case, it has turned out to be quite an issue, since completing a run in Housemarque's game can take quite a few hours, and not everyone is able to play games for an extended time. It's quite surprising that the developers have not considered this possibility.
Right now, your only option to continue a Returnal game after taking a break is to leave your PlayStation 5 on Rest Mode while suspending the game, which shouldn't be too much of an issue for some people, but if the power goes down at your place for whatever reason you will lose all your progress. The number of players asking for an option to save mid-game to avoid losing your progress in case you have to stop playing for some reason has grown over the weekend. Finally, Housemarque has come up with an answer via Twitter that has left most players befuddled, as they just acknowledge a problem which they obviously already knew.
We hear the community and we love you all. Nothing to announce now, but keep playing and enjoying the challenge as you can!#Returnal #PS5

It seems that all that they have to say right now is that they have "nothing to announce", which leaves thousands of players waiting to know if they intend to work on a possible solution to this problem. Saving your progress shouldn't interfere with the basic mechanic of a roguelike game, which is that once you die you have to start all over from the beginning. We will have to wait a bit longer to find out how big of an impact this will have on the initial sales of Returnal, but so far the game seems to be doing quite well, despite it's only available on PS5.
