Morrowind for PC extended, it is now free until March 31st

Bethesda marks the 25th year anniversary of The Elder Scrolls with a Morrowind giveaway.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls, its developers announced a giveaway in their official Twitter account earlier today. Bethesda is giving a free copy of The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and it’s none other than the Game of the Year edition at that! The giveaway was supposedly only running for today, but due to the increased demand and technical difficulties, the promotion is now extended until the weekend. If you want to grab your own copy, just sign in to your Bethesda.net account or create one and use the code: TES25TH-MORROWIND. Once you’ve redeemed the code and downloaded the game, you can also check out OpenMW if you want; it’s a player-created game engine that makes Morrowind much easier to play. Morrowind is the third game in the Elder Scrolls series. The first title was The Elder Scrolls: Arena and was released on March 25th, 1994. While it’s true that Morrowind is a rather old but it’s still $48 in Amazon so getting it for free is a huge deal.  Arena and Daggerfall have also been free for some time now but it’s Morrowindthat catapulted the series and Bethesda’s fame.

Morrowind is set in the volcanic island of Vvardenfell where players are then introduced to the Dummer clan, a race of dark-skinned elves in Tamriel. Through the series, the players are pitted against the immortal Dagoth Ur and fight for the safety of the kingdom. This game became the model for the next two successful games of the series, The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Aside from the free Morrowind for PC giveaway, Bethesda is also running other promotions on their TES titles. There’s a free-play event coming this Thursday to The Elder Scrolls Online that will last until April 4th. There’s also anniversary loot in The Elder Scrolls Legends card game, and additional in-game content for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. It’s a busy week for all The Elder Scrolls fans out there!
