New Update Makes Minecraft Dungeons II Playable on Steam Deck
Just a few days after its official launch, Minecraft Dungeons II has received a notable update for Steam Deck players. According to a new announcement on Steam, the game should now be playable on Valve's handheld, although the experience is not fully polished yet and some issues will be addressed in future updates. At the same time, the developers have adjusted the emerald limit across all platforms, tackling one of the issues that quickly came up within the community following the game's release.
Steam Deck Is Now Playable, but Minecraft Dungeons II Is Not Fully Verified Yet
Minecraft Dungeons II officially launched on September 29 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. However, Steam Deck users soon began reporting problems when trying to run the Steam version of the game. Feedback about support for the handheld appeared on Minecraft Feedback shortly after launch, and on September 30, the development team confirmed that it had seen the reports and was working on the issue.
The latest update now takes things one step further. According to the official Steam announcement, Minecraft Dungeons II “should now be playable on Steam Deck,” allowing players to experience the game on the handheld instead of having to wait for a more complete solution in the future.
That said, the optimization process is not finished yet. The developers warn that some issues may still occur, including the on-screen keyboard not working as expected. More improvements are planned for a future update as the team works toward full Steam Deck verification. For now, this update should therefore be seen as the step that makes Minecraft Dungeons II playable on Steam Deck, rather than confirmation that the game has already achieved Valve's full Verified status.
Alongside Steam Deck compatibility, the update also introduces a balance change across all platforms. The maximum number of emeralds players can hold has been increased from 9,999 to 99,999, raising the previous limit tenfold. Notably, this change does not require a game update and will take effect the next time players log in.
The emerald cap was also among the issues raised by the community on launch day. On Minecraft Feedback, one player reported reaching the 9,999-emerald limit in less than two hours, while any emeralds earned beyond the cap were not retained. Other players also called for the limit to be increased or removed, especially since emeralds are used with Merchants and for upgrades at the Blacksmith.
In its latest Steam announcement, the development team does not say whether the higher emerald cap was introduced in response to any specific piece of feedback. Still, the new 99,999 limit clearly gives players much more room to stockpile the currency during their adventures.
With the game now playable on Steam Deck and the emerald cap significantly expanded, Minecraft Dungeons II is already receiving some of its first adjustments just days after release.
