Creative Assembly has officially detailed Grey Seer Thanquol, the long-awaited Skaven Legendary Lord who is headlining the upcoming Lords of the End Times expansion (Update 9.0), launching on September 24, 2026. Leading Clan Scruten, the iconic arch-schemer brings new campaign mechanics, monstrous battle units, and devastating magical versatility to the Total War: Warhammer 3 sandbox.

Orchestrating Chaos with Masterplans

On the campaign map, Thanquol operates through Masterplans. This unique faction mechanic allows players to craft and execute covert military, magical, or economic plots across foreign territories. Whether orchestrating sudden economic collapse in rival capitals or triggering catastrophic magical disasters, Thanquol’s playstyle emphasizes scheming underhanded setbacks into grand tactical victories in service of the Council of Thirteen.

Monstrous Roster Additions

Thanquol enters the fray mounted atop his iconic, warpfire-spewing bodyguard, Boneripper. On the battlefield, he functions as a hybrid caster capable of casting spells from both the Lore of Plague and Lore of Ruin. His arrival expands the Skaven roster with several high-tier, End Times-themed units:

Stormfiends: Heavy monstrous infantry variants equipped with Grinderfists, Doom-flayer Gauntlets, Shock Gauntlets, Ratling Cannons, Windlaunchers, and Warpfire Projectors.
Verminlords: Four distinct daemon-rat Lord variants, including the Corruptor, Deceiver, Warbringer, and Warpseer.
Skreech Verminking: The legendary rat-daemon king joins as an exclusive Legendary Hero.
Siege Artillery: Devastating siege support like the Warp-Doom Magma Cannon and Cauldron of a Thousand Poxes.

Thanquol and Boneripper together is probably exactly what Skaven fans wanted. It'd be pretty weird to have Thanquol without that giant rat next to him.
